I love preparing bids. The market I work in is a little leary of crafty so I bind them in Leather paper, put vellum on the next page, print out a beautiful picture of just a taste of what the home will look like (so you can see it through the vellum) and then the bid.
So far it's worked and I haven't been turned down when I go out on a bid with my new process!
I'm working on a 3 million dollar home at the moment and she's paying me to shop with her for all new furniture! Then she's going to pay me to Stage it!
How can you beat that! It's all in the presentation that appeals to your market niche.
I also come prepared to show pictures and samples of ideas that I whip out if I feel a committment coming, I trust my solar plexus and I use that as my guide. I figure that if it's meant to be and the bid was good, they're going to work with me and not steal ideas and try to emmulate it themselves.
And I will remember forever the positive affirmation Jennie Norris taught me when I did CE with her:
My clients love me, They do everything I say. People are seeking me out for business. I work with only positive people... The others don't even bother to show up.
I have that right in front of my face at my office desk.
So far all of my requests for staging bids have been from men so I am using a high quality black folder and I put the large ASP sticker on the front in the right bottom corner. It gives a professional appearance but not cutsey for the men.
Your comments are great - and I learned the positive affirmations from my own mentor- Barb Schwarz - so thanks, Kristen for the reminder that we need to have positive affirmations in front of us at all times!
I agree that carving out a niche is important and then the human touch is key - not just doing it all over the computer is important. There are Stagers out there that do not want to take the time to meet with a client - and if the client says they are short on time - keep things short for them - but get a personal meeting whenever possible!
As our industry evolves, our proposals evolve too - and I have put all the pages from the outline we teach in class now - in our proposals. They are beefier, better and convey more professionalism!
I have used antique gold card stock as the cover and back page, and then vellum paper as the liner with our logo on it. I used the ASPM sticker on the front and on the inside to add some class, and then the bulk of the proposal was on paper - in color. It turned out great - and was not too hard to put together.
Since we have "stock" pages that we use with all our proposals, I can pre-produce those and then customize the pages that need to be detailed for the particular client. It works!
Kristen when I read that positive affirmation you shared i immediately made a copy for my self and some friends. I have it on my desk and look at it often. thanks for sharing.

I get the paper at Pearls Art Supply. I think any major art or craft place would have it. It looks and feels like leather.
I poke a hole in it with a pin in three places at the side, then put in miniature brads to bind it.
The tiny brads and the feel of the paper make it really nice.
